WHAT YOU STUDY

In Year 12 you will study topics including tourism in Spain, the world of work, changing family structures, music, the media and festivals. You will also study a Spanish film or literary work.

In Year 13 you will study immigration, integration, multiculturalism and cultural topics such as the study of Spanish Politics, History, Literature and Film. You will extend your knowledge and application of Spanish grammar and vocabulary as well as your oral, listening, reading and writing skills.

HOW YOU STUDY

A-Level Spanish is a two year course assessed at the end of Year 13. This will be a speaking exam, a listening and reading exam and a written exam based on a Spanish literary text and a film. You will also be examined on your knowledge of grammar and translation skills. The A-Level course enables you to further extend your knowledge and understanding of Spanish culture and you will be expected to do background reading and research on Spain and the Hispanic world as well as responding critically to a Spanish literary work and a film.

Spanish is a very important world language and a qualification in a Modern Foreign Language will open many career paths to you including Business And Marketing, Tourism, Journalism, Law and the Hotel and Catering Industry. Should you choose to study languages at university, you will spend a year abroad as part of your degree course. This experience is highly valued by employers and will give you an advantage when applying for work in the future. Employers value a qualification in a Modern Foreign Language and combining a language with Science, Mathematics, English, ICT or Business can greatly enhance your career prospects.
