Year 7 Roar to Victory in Saturday Morning Rugby Thriller
On Saturday, 24th January, the Year 7 rugby team played their first Saturday morning fixture against St Joseph’s College, Stoke. It was an early 8:15 am start for a 10:00 am kick-off.
This year, we are fortunate to have several experienced players who play for Dudley Kingswinford, Wolverhampton and Stourbridge rugby clubs. Their experience proved invaluable in supporting the newer players making their first appearances.
St Joseph’s made a strong start, taking a three tries to one lead in the opening quarter. However, our team responded superbly in the second quarter, winning it two tries to nil. As the third quarter began, our overall performance continued to develop, and an outstanding try-saving tackle from Thomas helped build confidence across the team.
With a man-of-the-match performance from debut player Gabriel, who scored six tries, and two further tries from Orion, the team ran out deserved winners by eight tries to six.
With such an excellent start to the year, we cannot wait to see how far this incredible team of young players will go!
