Expedition Training Starts for Year 9

This academic year, 121 Year 9 students enrolled on the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, and all have now successfully completed their expedition training.

Five groups took part in two full days of practical training, focusing on developing essential expedition skills. During the first day, students worked in two groups to navigate the Trysull–Seisdon loop. They used OS maps to follow a variety of routes, including bridleways and national footpaths, while practising accurate compass work and walking on bearings to navigate safely and correctly.

On the second practice day, students ventured further from school, starting at the ford on Bridgnorth Road. Working more independently and collaboratively, they navigated sections of the Monarch’s Way to Bradshaw Farm Shop near Perton, before returning via the village of Great Moor.

Students also learned how to safely and correctly use a gas Trangia stove, enabling them to prepare substantial meals in readiness for their overnight assessed expedition based in Llandrinio.

Congratulations to all Year 9 students for making an excellent start to the Duke of Edinburgh Award. They have shown outstanding commitment, teamwork and enthusiasm throughout their training.
