Year 11 GCSE PE Students Take on the Challenge at Wyre Forest Leisure Centre
Our Year 11 GCSE PE students recently travelled to Wyre Forest Leisure Centre to complete their rock climbing assessment as part of their practical coursework. The trip took place over two days, with pupils ready to challenge themselves and demonstrate the skills they have been developing.
Throughout the sessions, students were introduced to the key techniques needed for safe and effective climbing. They learned how to tie the correct climbing knots, an essential skill for any climber, before putting their abilities to the test on a range of different climbing routes. As their confidence grew, so did their determination to tackle more challenging climbs.
A particular highlight of the trip was the speed climbing challenge, which quickly became a competitive and exciting part of the day. Students encouraged one another while trying to beat their friends’ times, creating a fantastic atmosphere of teamwork and friendly rivalry.
Most importantly, students were able to capture all of their required video evidence for assessment. This has now been successfully scored, and many students achieved excellent marks that will contribute towards their final GCSE PE grades.
The students were an absolute pleasure to be around throughout the trip. Their positive attitude, willingness to support each other, and enthusiasm for the activity made the experience enjoyable for everyone involved.
Of course, it wasn’t just the students who had a go. Mr Blakeway also took to the climbing wall and quickly discovered just how demanding rock climbing can be on the body!
Overall, the trip was a great success and a fantastic opportunity for students to apply their skills in a real climbing environment while gaining valuable assessment evidence for their GCSE PE course. Well done to all involved!
