During the last academic year, a group of Year 10 Highfields students took part in the inspiring Strike A Change programme, delivered by the Wolves Foundation in partnership with the Cyrille Regis Legacy Trust. This initiative combines weekly mentoring and football skills sessions, culminating in competitive tournaments hosted by Premier League clubs across the region.
The programme has been a fantastic opportunity for our students, who engaged enthusiastically throughout. Each half term, they represented the school and football club in tournaments, and in the final event of the year, the Highfields boys were announced as overall winners - a tremendous achievement and testament to their hard work and commitment.
The graduation event, hosted at Wolves’ Compton Park training ground, celebrated the success of all participants. Special guest Karl Henry, former Wolves captain and Foundation ambassador, shared his journey and spoke powerfully about overcoming challenges and breaking down barriers - echoing the legacy of Cyrille Regis, whose work continues to inspire young people today.
Students from six West Midlands club foundations took part in the year-long programme, which aims to raise aspirations and self-esteem among young people facing challenges in their lives. The Trust, founded by Cyrille’s widow Julia Regis, honours his passion for mentoring and supporting youth.
Elliott, one of our students, reflected on the experience:
“It’s been a really good year, being able to go to such top-class facilities at the different clubs, and take part in workshops and play football. Learning about Cyrille Regis and the impact he had on football has also been really important, and we’ve taken away some valuable lessons.”
We are incredibly proud of our students for their dedication and success, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with Wolves Foundation in the coming year.
