Motorsport Club Inspired by Morgan’s Timeless Craft

Last term, eight enthusiastic students from Highfields’ Motorsport Club hit the road to Malvern for an unforgettable visit to the Morgan Motor Company. The trip gave them the chance to compare the traditional coachbuilding techniques used at Morgan with the modern methods they’ve been applying to their own electric race car project.

Led by Nick from Morgan, the pupils were guided through the entire production process—from engine fitting and aluminium bodywork creation to the assembly of the iconic wooden frames and final upholstery. Students were fascinated by the craftsmanship on display, seeing first-hand how heritage skills and innovation come together to create Morgan’s unique vehicles.

The tour wasn’t just informative, it was inspirational. Our budding engineers left brimming with new ideas, particularly around the timber lamination techniques they witnessed, which they are now keen to adapt when manufacturing the bodywork for the school’s race car.

The day was made even more enjoyable thanks to the warm welcome and expert guidance from all the Morgan staff, with a special thank you to Nick for making the experience so engaging and memorable.
