Students at Highfields enjoy being able to take risks through experimentation and imagination by working independently and as part of a team.  Students are motivated to become independent learners and make choices during Year 9 through to Year 13 in developing and engaging in a personal project. Practical skills are taught alongside knowledge and understanding of the visual arts and culture which include a range of disciplines. Art provides a balance of creative and academic structure. Highfields supports the Arts Council in their views of Art education.

“Studying cultural education subjects, such as art and design, dance, drama and music, sparks creativity across the curriculum, encouraging young people to be inquisitive, disciplined and determined. Wherever children start in life, a high quality cultural education in every school should be a right, not a privilege. Alongside literacy and numeracy, another skill needed in our workforce today is creativity. Cultural education subjects help young people to unlock their innate creativity, enabling them to become more rounded and confident human beings.”
