Construction
In addition to the specific skills required to work in the construction industry the aim of the subject is to develop student’s soft skills and in no small part their confidence in and around school. Enabling students to not only discuss their work but also communicate with other people effectively in a variety of manners. Other important skills that aim to be developed are student’s organisations, discipline, and respect.
The Construction curriculum is designed around four key areas of learning; health and safety, trade skills, communication and evaluation
The Construction curriculum is designed so that the foundation knowledge, skills, and understanding is embedded during Year 9. Subsequently years 10 and 11 will then build upon this, whilst introducing more demanding and advanced topics; there is a clear link between year 9, 10 and 11. Additionally relevant content is also incorporated into the KS3 D&T curriculum.
