Lykos Multi Academy Trust

Highfields School became an academy on 1st December 2015 and is now one of six schools within Lykos Multi Academy Trust. 

Lykos MAT is committed to building a genuine family of schools that have an aligned ethos, values and culture of providing high-quality and inclusive education for all. The name Lykos is derived from the Greek word for “wolfpack”, symbolising strength, unity and collaboration, along with our origins in Wolverhampton communities.

The trust believes that highly autonomous, accountable and locally-led schools rooted in their community can provide the strongest outcomes for learners.  Each school retains their own unique identity and enjoys high levels of autonomy in order to serve and support their learners and local communities to the highest possible standard.

All Local Governing Boards are made up of individuals who know their schools and communities well, they have experienced governors with expertise from the worlds of school improvement, legal, human resources, financial, accounting and governance, as well as industry and business.

Governance at Highfields School

Highfields School has a strong and committed Local Governing Board (LGB) that meets each half term.  The board comprises elected staff and parent governors and coopted governors from the wider community.

The LGBs main purpose is to provide support and challenge to school leaders and hold them to account for the academic performance and quality of care and provision for the school.    

The board will ensure sound oversight of the school’s finances, staffing and resources including proper planning, monitoring and probity.  However, the Trust Board retains overall responsibility for the performance, governance and finances of the trust. 

  • The key responsibilities of the LGB will include:

  • Ensuring the quality of educational provision

  • Challenging and monitoring the performance of the school

  • Ensuring that challenge is appropriate, targeted and welcomed.

  • Ensuring good financial health and probity
