Biology
Biology is an exciting and rewarding subject that connects to so many aspects of everyday life from the tiny molecules inside our cells to the vast ecosystems that shape our planet. It is a subject that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and a genuine appreciation of the living world around us.
Whether you are studying at GCSE or A Level, you will explore the full breadth of life on Earth from cells and tissues through to whole organisms, populations, and ecosystems. Along the way, you will develop highly valuable skills in problem solving, analysis, and the ability to communicate scientific ideas clearly and with confidence.
Our lessons draw on a wide range of approaches, from hands-on investigations and collaborative tasks to data analysis, presentations, and independent research. We are committed to developing well-rounded, skilled individuals who are equipped for success in higher education, future careers, and life beyond the classroom.
Our Biology teachers are experienced, passionate, and genuinely committed to your success. Alongside timetabled lessons, we offer a range of additional support including morning interventions, after-school sessions, and skills workshops ensuring every student has the guidance they need to thrive.
We are proud of what our students go on to achieve. Year after year, Biology students at Highfields perform exceptionally well in their examinations, with many attaining the highest grades at both GCSE and A Level. A significant number of GCSE students continue with Biology into the Sixth Form, and our A Level students have progressed to study Medicine, Dentistry, Biomedical Science, Pharmacy, Marine Biology, and beyond.
We look forward to seeing where Biology takes you.
