Construction
In addition to the specific skills required to work in the construction industry, the aim of the subject is to develop students’ soft skills and in no small part their confidence in and around school. This enables students to not only discuss their work but also communicate with other people effectively in a variety of ways. Other important skills that aim to be developed are students’ organisation, discipline, and respect.
The Construction curriculum is designed around four key areas of learning: health and safety, trade skills, communication and evaluation
The Construction curriculum is designed so that the foundation knowledge, skills, and understanding is embedded during Year 9. Subsequently Years 10 and 11 will then build upon this, whilst introducing more demanding and advanced topics; there is a clear link between Year 9, 10 and 11. Additionally relevant content is also incorporated into the Key Stage 3 Design and Technology curriculum.
