Dance

Within the curriculum, dance is taught through Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 aiming to build the transferable skills of confidence, problem-solving, perseverance and self-discipline.

At Key Stage 3 we look to explore a variety of dance styles as we engage in the delights of different cultures to understand the importance of dance and its effect on society. Students gain independence as they research world events as a starting point for their creativity, learning to empathise, embody and portray meaning through movement.

At Key Stage 4 students work practically as both a performer and a choreographer. As a performer we aim to develop their technique and performance skills as well as promoting fitness and a healthy lifestyle. We provide the students with the self-confidence and leadership skills to teach their peers as a choreographer to express their ideas. Students are provided with professional dance works to study to enhance their movement vocabulary and spark interest in new ways to create and perform dance such as different settings to perform and dance for camera.

Overall, we aim not only to provide them with the physical skills of a dancer but the life skills of working effectively in a group as well as solo, time management, response to feedback and the capacity to improve.
