Health & Social Care
We aim for all our students to become empathetic, compassionate and competent citizens who make a positive contribution to society.
The Health and Child curriculum will enable them to develop numerous vital skills including: working with others, problem solving, independent study, personal learning and thinking skills, working from a prescribed brief, working to deadlines, presenting information effectively, accurately completing administrative tasks and procedures, making them extremely employable for the future.
The Health and Social Care curriculum will give students an insight into many aspects of the health and social care environment, ranging from how the human develops from birth to death, different types of support that might be used for a care user, through to seeing how care values are expressed.
Three million people in the UK work in the health and social care sector - the equivalent to one in every 10 people in employment. Demand for both health and social care is likely to continue to rise due to the ageing population and more recently Covid 19. And so all involved in this keyworker sector will play a very important role within our society.
Our vision is a high-quality vocational curriculum that is broad, balanced and engaging to all students. The KS3 curriculum is designed to prepare students with the foundation knowledge and understanding which will allow them to make informed decisions regarding course choice and to prepare them for KS4 and beyond. KS4 & 5 courses have been developed to give students the opportunity to gain a wider understanding of this key vocational sector.
Students will develop knowledge by applying their learning and skills in a work-related context. Students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and to develop skills that are essential for the modern-day workplace.
In order to equip our students with an appropriate range of learning, we have identified common themes which feature throughout the curriculum, each key stage building upon the previous learning.
