Student Laptops
We are proud to offer a laptop programme, to all students, throughout their time at Highfields. These devices most effectively support our delivery of an innovative curriculum which utilises a wide range of digital technologies to enhance teaching and learning.
When students join us in Year 7, the laptop scheme is available on an initial 30-month contribution plan which will take the student into the middle of Year 9. At this point, there will be an opportunity to start a new 30-month plan for a brand new device which will take them through to the end of their GCSE examinations and possibly through into the Sixth Form. The programme is offered with low monthly contributions, currently set at £8, or a one-off purchase option, along with discounts available to ensure full accessibility for all students.
The Device
The laptop offered may vary, as technology changes, however, generally will we offer a device with specifications: 11.6” screen; 4GB RAM; 64GB SSD; Windows operating system and the following added benefits:
Accidental damage and theft cover for the entire period, both at school and home
A replacement device during any repair period
Installation of anti-virus software, to protect the laptop
Connection to the school’s secure WiFi and broadband, including enhanced filtering to ensure a high level of online safety
Access to remote student printing at one of the six print stations within the school
Individual Office 365 cloud storage
Access to the school’s online resources at any time, in any place
If you have any concerns at all about your child’s use of digital technologies please ask for advice and guidance. Phone, email or come into school. If you are not happy with the risks involved in using a laptop at home you can arrange with the school that your child does not bring the device home.
