AAQ - Cambridge Advanced National in IT: Extended Certificate - Data Analytics

The Data Analytics qualification is a vocational course that has been designed to give students a work-focused alternative to A levels. The course provides students with an opportunity to learn the essential skills relating to the digital sector and then put these skills into action by making links to industry.

WHAT YOU STUDY 

Students develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to analyse and interpret data in real-world contexts. The course covers data management, big data, machine learning, spreadsheet modelling, data visualisation and digital marketing. Students explore how organisations collect, manage and analyse data to make informed decisions and solve real business problems.

HOW YOU STUDY 

Learning takes place through a combination of teacher-led lessons, practical activities and independent learning tasks.  Students apply their knowledge by completing industry-relevant projects alongside examinations that assess their understanding of key concepts. Throughout the course, students develop valuable transferable skills including analytical thinking, problem-solving, communication and project management.

The Applied IT department has an established reputation for delivering high-quality teaching and consistently excellent student outcomes.  Students benefit from experienced specialist teachers with OCR examiner experience, who provide expert guidance and insight into assessment requirements. Lessons combine academic challenge with practical, real-world applications, enabling students to develop the knowledge, technical skills and confidence needed for success. The department provides excellent support both in and beyond the classroom, with a strong focus on helping every student achieve their full potential.  Students benefit from access to Microsoft 365 applications, interactive teaching resources and extensive exam and coursework preparation materials. These resources enable students to develop practical skills in realistic business scenarios while supporting independent learning both in school and at home.

PROGRESSION TO UNIVERSITY/CAREERS 

The course provides students with a solid foundation for higher education, technical apprenticeships or careers in the digital and data sectors. 

OUR SUCCESSES 

The department has a strong record of academic success, with students consistently achieving the higher Distinction and Distinction* grades and progressing to a wide range of university courses and higher apprenticeships. Many former students have gone on to study subjects including Business Analytics, Computing, Cyber Security and Data Science, building on the practical and analytical skills developed throughout the course.
