WHAT YOU STUDY
Students cover elements of both British and World History; Year 12 consists of a 17th Century British study of the Early Stuarts and the origins of the Civil War 1603-1660, and a European History study of Russia 1894-1941. In Year 13 Students will study Popular Culture and the Witchcraze of the 16th and 17th Centuries, drawing on a number of examples from a wide range of European countries as well as America. Students will also complete a Personal Study, where they can select from one of several research areas to undertake their own historical enquiry. Research areas are likely to include; Nazi Germany, The Cold War, The Tudors and Britain’s War Years 1914-45.
HOW YOU STUDY
Throughout the duration of the two year course students prepare for three examination units and 1 Personal Study which is internally assessed and externally moderated.
Students are well prepared for the examination units; core skills and success criteria are embedded into lessons, allowing students to build and develop exam confidence throughout the duration of their course.
For all units of study students can expect an amount of set reading. Students are also expected to engage independently in wider reading and research around the topics, which is an essential part of developing knowledge and contextual understanding of the historical issues studied.
History is a highly literate subject, so students can also expect to engage frequently with written tasks, whether it be note taking or preparing exam style essays or analysis.
